  4. After two EuroMillions Superdraws in 2019 – including one that led to a UK player winning £123 million – the first special event of 2020 has been announced. A jackpot of €130 million or more will be on offer to players in the 7th February Superdraw. Last year was the luckiest on record for UK EuroMillions players.

Jackpot Set to Soar

The jackpot for 7th February will be at least €130 million, making it the biggest prize to have been seen on the game since a player from the UK banked a record-breaking £170 million (€190 million) on 8th October 2019.

It does not matter if the jackpot is much lower in the preceding draw or even if it has just been won; the €130 million (approximately £110 million) is guaranteed as the money comes from the EuroMillions Reserve Fund.

There is a chance the jackpot could even be higher than €130 million on the night, if it has naturally surpassed the advertised figure as a result of rollovers. That is exactly what happened on 4th October, when a €100 million Superdraw was not required as the jackpot was already at its maximum €190 million.

Superdraw Scheduled As Changes Arrive

The Superdraw will follow hot on the heels of changes being made to EuroMillions on 1st February. From the start of the month, the jackpot cap will increase from €190 million to €200 million, paving the way for a new record to be set for the biggest ever EuroMillions jackpot. It is even possible that the upcoming Superdraw could help to propel the jackpot up to €200 million for the first time.

Other changes will also see the jackpot grow more quickly. The percentage of the prize fund allocated to each of the 13 tiers will be recalculated from February, with more money going to the jackpot every draw. Other prize categories will receive a lower portion to compensate for the bigger jackpots. Check out all the changes coming to EuroMillions.

More Superdraws can also be expected every year as part of the changes. While on average there have only been two a year since 2017, there are set to be three in 2020 to give players even more big events to look forward to.

The changes will help to make this year even more exciting for players in all nine participating countries, following on from a remarkable 2019 which featured six jackpot wins in excess of €100 million. Take part online for your chance to become a winner!

The first EuroMillions Superdraw of the year will go ahead on Friday 7th February, pushing the jackpot up to a guaranteed €130 million. You can also expect to see more big jackpots on the way after changes were made to EuroMillions.

It was announced in December that changes would come into effect from the start of February, with more money allocated to the top prize in every draw. This adjustment was made after the draw on Friday 31st January, in time for the game on Tuesday 4th February, and will lead to jackpots growing more quickly.

The jackpot cap has also gone up from €190 million to €200 million, laying the platform for a new record to be set for the largest prize in EuroMillions history. New rules also allow for the maximum jackpot to rise as high as €250 million in future.

How Superdraws Work

Superdraws, also known as Megadraws, are also set to take place more regularly. There have usually only been two a year, but there are expected to be three a year from now on. The first one under the new rules will take place on Friday.

Superdraws are special events which offer guaranteed nine-figure jackpots, regardless of how much the top prize was worth in the preceding draw or even whether it was won or not.

The money comes from the Reserve Fund, which receives a percentage of the prize fund in every draw. This percentage has been tweaked following the latest changes, so more money is likely to be available to pay for special promotions such as Superdraws. Go to the EuroMillions Prizes page to find out how much goes to each prize category.

The jackpot will be catapulted up to €130 million for Friday’s Megadraw. If there are no winners, it will roll over as normal and an even larger amount will be put up for grabs in the following draw. It could even be that the new jackpot cap is activated in a matter of weeks.

Irish players have enjoyed a lot of success in Superdraws over the years, most notably 12 months ago. The jackpot rolled over from a Megadraw on 1st February 2019, eventually reaching €175 million on 19th February. A single ticket from County Dublin matched all the numbers, making a Naul family syndicate the biggest-ever winners of a lottery prize in Ireland.

Another Superdraw in October had to be postponed because the jackpot already exceeded the advertised amount. That was during a record-breaking run of 22 rollovers which finally ended when a UK ticket holder won €190 million.
