Devilfish Poker
Poker legend Dave “DevilFish” Ulliott has passed away from his battle with bowel cancer, according to a Tweet sent Tuesday from his personal Twitter account.
- Ulliott (1 April 1954 – 6 April 2015), known by the nickname Devilfish, was an English professional gambler and poker player. Formerly, Ulliott was a minor figure in the Hull underworld, but went on to become a World Series of Poker bracelet -winner, and a mainstay of televised poker.

One of the most recognisable faces in British poker, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, died on 6 April at the age of 61, following a battle with colon cancer. Ulliott had been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Ulliott was born on April 4, 1954. Over his decades-long poker career, the poker pro accumulated more than $5 million in lifetime tournament scores, which includes a World Series of Poker bracelet in 1997 and a World Poker Tour title in 2003.
He is survived by eight children and a wife.

Ulliott was told he had terminal cancer back in February, and the news of his diagnosis recently became known to the poker community. Many were calling for his induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, which could still happen posthumously.

In an interview with the Hull Daily Mail, Ulliott said that after all his years of playing poker and making friends on the felt, it was family at the end of the day that made life truly worth it.
“I love my family,” he said. “Life is all about family, the rest doesn’t mean anything. You do get a few friends that walk in to your life and stay there, but in general life is all about family.”

“I was playing against a guy in Birmingham and he said to me, ‘You should be called Devilfish’,” Ulliott said. “When I asked him why he said it was a very poisonous fish that eats everything in the water. I responded and said I eat everything in the bath, except the soap. Next I went to Las Vegas and people started calling me Devilfish, and it kind of stuck.”
